Story
Yugi's grandfather runs a game store. One day Yugi learns of a very, very old Egyptian card fighting game called "Duel Monsters", in the game, different creatures fight in magical duels. Besides just battling themselves, they also have to contend with a changing battlefield that holds many dangers. When the battle is all over, only one duelist will rise to be called the King of Games.Along the way, as Yugi learns to play this game, he solves the secret of an ancient puzzle (Millennium Puzzle) and releases the spirit of an Egyptian Pharaoh, Yami Yugi, who had lost his memories in the last 5000 years. With help from Yami Yugi, Yugi sets out to become King of the Duelists.
In the past Yugi led a mild mannered, quiet life. Now his friend, Joey, helps him deal with his much greater responsibilities. With the help he receives from Yami Yugi and his closest friends, Joey, Tristan and Téa, he is ready to face the challenges ahead, as well as to uncover the Pharaoh’s lost memories along the way.
Characters
Yugi Motou: Yugi is a young kind-hearted boy with a good spirit. He is always determined to do anything for his friends and family. From the day Yugi found out about Duel Monsters, as well as his other side, he always played his best and won ever duel without forfeiting. His greatest opponent and rival is Seto Kaiba who always forces Yugi to do his best in every duel against each other.
Yami Yugi (Pharaoh): The other side of Yugi who usually only appears when Yugi is in a duel. Yami Yugi is a spirit that has been held in Yugi's Millennium Puzzle for 5000 years and was locked in the Millennium Puzzle after he was defeated by evil in Ancient Egypt. He is an expert at Duel Monsters and defeats all who oppose him, and therefore claiming the name of “King of Duel Monsters”. Even playing by his opponent's rules, Yami Yugi is always ready to fight and is never willing to give up. 
Joey Wheeler: Joey is Yugi's best friend who has a will that can never be broken by anything or anyone. He would do anything for his friends no matter who or what stood in his way Joey is a great duelist, especially with his Red-Eyes Black Dragon with him. Unfortunately, he is not as good as Yugi or Kaiba but is determined to be so. 
Tristan Taylor: Tristan is a freshman at domino high school and is Joey’s closest friend. They've known each other for a long time. The two of them tease each other, make fun of each other, even beat each other up, but it's all at of love! Tristan and Yugi's relationship isn't as developed as Tea's and Joey’s, but Tristen and Yugi do consider themselves good friends, and he would not hesitate to back Yugi up. 
Téa Gardner: Téa is girl with a very upbeat and cool personality. Her most fervent dream is to travel to New York to study dance. In the meantime, she spends her time with her time with her friends at school. Téa knows Yugi from back in grade school, so when she was saved by the person she suspected to be Yugi, she was surprised. After the Burger World incident, she began to wonder about the other side of Yugi. 
Seto Kaiba: Yugi's rival in Duel Monsters. He is a serious duelist who is extremely skilled and his greatest wish is to beat Yugi in a Duel as he has never done this before without threatening to kill himself. Kaiba is a rich guy who owns his own company called Kaiba Corporation, which he inherited it after his stepfather mysteriously disappeared. 
Mokuba Kaiba: Kaiba's little brother. Whenever he is in trouble Kaiba is always there to help him out of it. He is compassionate for Yugi and his friends unlike Kaiba though. 
Ryou Bakura: Bakura is also a friend of Yugi although later on in the series they don't hang around together. As regular Bakura, he is a nice guy but kind of a softy. Bakura owns a Millennium Item, the Millennium Ring. This contains an evil force which transforms him into Yami Bakura, who uses a deck compiled with ghostly monsters. He likes to send people to the shadow realm just for the fun of it. 
Yami Bakura: The counterpart of Bakura. His goal in life is to collect all 7 Millennium Items to unlock a power unlike any before. He is not aware however that the Pharaoh's power is greater than the power of all 7 Millennium Items. He was once a peaceful person until his village got destroyed by Yami Yugi’s father. 
Marik Ishtar: Born as a Tomb keeper but rejected the job as much as the Pharaoh. He had an evil side that was born when the ritual to make him a Tomb keeper was complete. He tried to collect all 3 Egyptian God cards in order to defeat Yami Yugi and get his Millennium Puzzle. He used the Millennium Rod to take control of people's minds and have them duel Yami Yugi and Kaiba.
Yami Marik: As Marik's dark side, he could only take control while Odion wasn't around to protect Marik from him. He also desired the infinite power of the Pharaoh and tried to defeat Yami Yugi in a shadow duel using his Winged Dragon of Ra, using the Millennium Rod to create the shadow duel. 
Ishizu Ishtar: Marik's older sister. She once had the Millennium Necklace to see into the future and help her defeat Kaiba in their duel. However, Kaiba changed the future and defeated her. 
Odion: He was the only one that could protect Marik from his evil side and when he was unconscious, Marik's dark side was able to come out and take control. The only way to destroy the dark side of Marik was for Odion to reawaken.
Trusdale Motou: Yugi's grandfather. He owns the game shop where Yugi gets all of his cards to duel. He got his soul taken away by Pegasus initially but Yugi was able to get it back. 
Serenity Wheeler: Joey's little sister. Joey has always been there for her no matter what and she has always been here for Joey too. Whenever Joey needed support she gave all he needed and never gives hope for Joey. 
Maximillion Pegasus: Pegasus is the creator of Duel Monsters. He was the former owner of the Millennium Eye until Yami Bakura stole it from them shortly after Yami Yugi defeated him in Duelist Kingdom. He created the game shortly after his trip to Egypt where he discovered artifacts that showed of monsters and how they would battle each other.Gallery
