Story
Ayasaki Hayate is not a normal high school student. He has to work whenever he has free time because of his parents. His father is always dreaming that he would one day find a good job and his mother believes that she would win some lottery and get rich, thus using every cent she can find to gamble. Hayate hid his age and work several part-times everyday. But one day he discovered that he was fired because his parents told his boss his age and took away his salary.Hayate went home to discovered that his parents had left and sold him to a gang. In order to save his life, Hayate decided to kidnap a rich child for ransom, so that he could pay off his debt. Hayate's debt was paid by a rich girl, Sanzenin Nagi, because she mistook his speech to her when he told her about the kidnap to words of love. Hayate started his new life as the new Sanzenin butler and his life continued to fill with miseries and excitement (torture).
Characters
Hayate Ayasaki: An abnormal kid who could use a bike to chase after a car, who could life after eating food with detergent and fighting with a tiger. In order to pay off his parents' debt, he was forced to work as a butler in the Sanzenin family. 
Nagi Sanzenin: A rich girl who mistook Hayate's words as a declaration of love and helped him paid off his debt. She believed that Hayate was the best guy on earth. She also is a manga maniac and hates school, however, she could pass with good grades. 
Maria: A maid in the Sanzenin family who was the most beautiful person Hatate had ever seen in his life. She was kind and is the only "normal" person in the story. 
Sakuya Aizawa: A crazy classmate of Nagi's. She always suddenly pay visits to Nagi's house and breaks things. Also a video game freak. 
Isumi Saginomiya: A quiet classmate of Nagi's. She is a complete idiot in directions. Also a ghost hunter. 
Wataru Tachibana: A guy whose family has become poor and was arranged to marry Nagi. He likes Isumi and is currently the boss of a video rental store. 
Saki Kijima: Wataru's only maid who likes her master a lot and works hard. She started to avoid Hayate after he saved her once because he touched her. 
Klaus: The chief butler of the Sanzenin family who did not like Nagi's idea of making Hayate as the newbutler. He tried many times to get rid of Hayate but failed. 
Tama: Nagi's pet which liked no one but Nagi and Maria. He was actually a talking animal but not one except Hayate and he himself knew. 
Ayumu Nishizawa: Hayate's classmate from an ordinary school who likes him. She missed him very much after Hayate suddenly disappeared and came to Nagi's house for visits often to see Hayate. 
Hinagiku Katsura: The students' council president of Nagi's school. She met Hayate when he was delivering a bento to Nagi. She was afraid of heights and was a good fighter with swords. She seemed to like Hayate. 
Yukiji Katsura: Hinagiku's older sister who was the gate keeper of the campus. She has made many failed attempts to prevent invaders into the school and thus got her wage deducted. Gallery
