Story
Number of Episodes: 13The story continues 6 months after the first series. Nanoha has been constantly practicing her techniques whilst Fate and Arf have remained in the custody of the Time-Space Administration agency, patiently waiting for the results of her trial. Fate and Nanoha have been keeping in contact by sending video DVDs to each other.
While working on an assignment at home, Raising Heart tells Nanoha that danger is approaching. Nanoha enters battle with the mysterious girl and is injured heavily due to the massive damage that the girl's weapon is capable of inflicting. Fate and Yuno arrives just in time to save Nanoha from death and battles the girl, but the girl's friends come to join in the battle shortly after. The first battle with the Wolkenritters already showed the power of them and thei r magical devices.
A wheel bound girl, Hayate Yagami who is actually the new mistress of the Book of Darkness, thus, became the mistress of the Wolkenritters too. However, she treats them differently from their other previous masters, caring for them as if they were her friends, which is why they showed feelings when they are not supposed to. The reason why she is wheel bound is because the Book of Darkness is eating into her and the Wolkenritters thought that the only way to stop it was to fill up all the 666 pages of Book of Darkness, thus, disobeying Hayate's order to stop hurting people because they had grown to love Hayate.
Nanoha and Fate were oblivious to the fact that Hayate is the mistress of Book of Darkness and had even become friends with her, it was not till they met the Wolkenritters in her hospital ward while visiting her then they realized it was her. This set off a series of events and let Hayate trigger the key of opening the Book of Darkness.
Characters
Takamachi Nanoha: She may be living in peacetime, but she has not let her work slide by training with Raising Heart. Soon, she teams up with Fate, Arf, Yuno, and the Time-Space Administration Bureau once again. Their new mission is to prevent the Wolkenritter from stealing mages' Linker Cores, also known as the power source for their Book of Darkness. In this season, Raising Heart is upgraded to be able to compete with the Wolkenritter's weapons, and is renamed "Raising Heart Excelion". She is often pitted against Vita, who refuses to call her by her name, always saying things like "Takamachi Something-Or-Other”.
Fate Testarossaa: She and Arf join the Time-Space Administration Bureau and go to Earth to team up with Nanoha again. Fate has to get used to civilian life, cell phones and having a new mother figure in Lindy Harlaown. Like Raising Heart, Bardiche is upgraded to be able to compete with the Wolkenritter's weapons, and is renamed "Bardiche Assault". Fate is captured by the Book of Darkness and thrown into a dream during a battle, from which she will never want to wake; a happy life with older sister Alicia and a sane, kind Precia. However, Fate remembers that her friends need her, and says a sad goodbye to the life she always wanted in favour of the life she has. 
Yagami Hayate: An orphan who gets an allowance from her father's friend and lives with the Wolkenritters, whom she tells civilians are her relatives. Though she is their mistress, she sees herself only as their friend, and has a good relationship with them, especially Vita. Later, thinking that Nanoha and Fate killed the Wolkenritter, she is taken over by the will of the Book of Darkness, becoming the fearsome, possessed woman inside of it. But she managed to overcome it and gives the Book a new name, "Reinforce”, which also becomes her weapon.
Yuno Scrya: After finishing up helping Fate with her trial and still does not get along with Chrono, due to their rivalry over Nanoha, Yuno becomes more and more useful in both forms as a backup and overall white mage; his counterpart in the opposition is Shamal. Yuno also resumes his civilian life as Nanoha's pet, and is subsequently showered with attention by Nanoha's friends and family. 
Arf: She and Fate join the Time-Space Administration Bureau and go to Earth to team up with Nanoha again. She now needs to blend in with the populace rather than scare them, exchanges her wolf form for that of a cute puppy, which Alisa adores. Arf is now relegated to backup with Yuno, always fighting Zafira. She joins the fight against the automated defense program of the Book.
Signum: She appears to be the oldest of the group and her powerful weapon, Lævatein is a chain-link sword. Unlike Vita, she keeps calm at almost all times and, though she has a strong will to absorb her enemies' Linker Cores into the Book, Signum nonetheless respects their level of power and does not take them lightly. She has an extensive knowledge of how the mind works, which is probably what, made her the group's leader, besides her strength. 
Shamal: Being Yuno's counterpart, does not actually fight, but uses her ring devices to defend, create portals, and absorb victims' Linker Cores into the Book of Darkness. Shamal acts as the 'mother' of the group, doing the shopping, worrying excessively over the others' well-being, and constructing excuses to Hayate as to why they're out so often. She knows that Hayate does not want them to fight anyone for her, but it is still no question that they must.
Vita: A hot-tempered young redhead who always pitted against Nanoha in battles, she uses her mallet, Graf Eisen, to fight. Vita arrogantly refuses to call Nanoha by her real name, always inventing some variation, until she and Nanoha join forces in the final battle.
Zafira: The Wolkenritter's familiar, a large grey wolf. He transforms into a muscular dark-skinned man, and in battles, always finds himself facing Arf. 
Reinforce: After Hayate takes control of her body during the final battle so that Nanoha can disable it and Hayate gives the Book a new name, "Reinforce". Reinforce believes that she has to be destroyed for the virus of the Book of Darkness never to return, and approaches Nanoha and Fate to do so, but Hayate refuses to let her go. Stating that she will always be with Hayate, Reinforce turns into the staff that Hayate uses as an intelligent device later in the 3rd season.
Chrono Harlaown: The son of Clyde Harlaown who was an Admiral of the Time-Space Administration Bureau that died during an earlier Bureau investigation of the Book of Darkness. After discovering the plans of Alia and Lotte Liese, and their master Gil Graham, he places them under arrest, because such a plan was clearly illegal. Later in the battle, he was instrumental in planning and executing the destruction of the Book of Darkness' Defensive Program.
Gil Graham: Graham, as he is usually known, is an aging Englishman and one of the few people from Earth with a magical aptitude. Alia and Lotte Liese are his twin catgirl familiars, who used to be Chrono's teachers in close combat and magic. 
Alia and Lotte Liese: These twin cat girls are Gil Graham's faithful familiars and Chrono Harlaown's former teachers. They are very strong magically, and will jump to their master's defense no matter what. Alia specialized in ranged attacks whereas Lotte specialized in melee attacks. Gallery
